We have all heard of or seen the show called Catfish at least once in our lives. It
is basically about a person who hides behind a social media platform and a fake
picture to make it seem as though they are someone they are not. This has
really come to the light in the last couple of years because of the show Catfish. People tend to hide their identity
because of low self-confidence, they feel as though they are not attractive enough
or either just to be plain evil and play pranks on people. People take this
thing way too far. They find others on social media and build relationships and
friendships. I specifically remember this crazy episode on the show where this
one girl catfished someone just to get on the show and tell the world and her
family she was gay. People find some of the craziest reasons to play this game
with people.
As we discussed in class, I can definitely see how we all
are actually some kind of catfish. Do we really portray our TRUE selves on our
social media pages? I know I do not and if I did people would probably think I was
crazy for sure. On social media we only tend to show our good days. On sunny
and warm days we record happy videos on snapchat of ourselves living perfectly
happy lives but no one shows the days when life seems like it is crumbling. Everybody
wants to put on this perfect face for the world, literally! We actually have
filters to put over our selfies to make us look more handsome or prettier. It
is so weird when I actually sit and think about it because when you use one of
the filters on snapchat, Instagram or even Twitter that is not the real you.
I think next time we point the finger at someone on catfish
and say they are wrong for what they do, we should look at ourselves. Every day
we live this fake catfish life, filtering up everything to make it look a
certain way. Why are we so quick to cover up our real world or live a life
through social media? I have my opinions but I think everybody should think
about it and really go into depth about why we try make everything “look” so
good.
Thanks Nev for this show, we are all Catfish.

I also saw that episode. I also agree with you that some people just have the craziest reasons to catfish other people. Some of them are just for fun but other are pure evil.
